About the Author

Kelly Scott Wilkens

Kelly Scott Wilkens, born in 1977 in Marietta, Georgia, had a challenging start. Three months after his birth, Kelly was placed in the care of Mr. and Mrs. James Darrell Smith due to his biological mother’s involvement in drugs and criminal activities. The Smiths, despite their modest means, loved Kelly dearly, and he quickly became “the apple of his daddy’s eye.”

At the age of three, the family moved from Georgia to their hometown in West Virginia, where James Smith, a former coal miner and jack-of-all-trades, began a new chapter. Kelly, with the help of his mother Charlotte and sister Norma, excelled in school. By first grade, it became clear that Kelly had a remarkable memory, as he memorized booklets instead of just reading them. This early indication of a literary mind was the first hint of his future in writing.

Throughout his life, Kelly has produced poetry, short stories, music, and now his first novel. He spent 2020 writing “Blood of My Blood,” a novel based on true events, published by Deepwater Writing. This intense drama explores themes of murder and suicide.

Kelly holds a master’s diploma in Advanced Creative Writing and has completed numerous projects on Freelancer.com and Upwork.com. He is also skilled in video production and web design, having created websites for music, videos, writing, e-commerce, and more.

Kelly’s childhood was marked by frequent moves between West Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia. Despite the upheaval, he consistently earned good grades and continued to write, a passion that started in the seventh grade and has continued for over thirty-five years.

A major turning point in Kelly’s life occurred at 15 when he was struck by a car, resulting in a traumatic brain injury. After a long recovery, Kelly continued his education but began encountering legal troubles. He graduated high school on time and pursued further studies at Mitchell Community College, earning credits in English and Psychology.

Kelly’s personal life has been tumultuous. He has faced the challenges of raising children amidst complex custody battles and the strain of epilepsy, which he has managed since his teens. Despite these hardships, Kelly has remained dedicated to his craft, producing music under the name D.&O.G. (“Down & Out Gangster”) and working tirelessly on his writing.

Today, Kelly Scott continues to write and create, drawing from his rich and often difficult life experiences. His first novel, “Blood of My Blood,” is a testament to his resilience and passion for storytelling.
